Shift gears on a mountain bike?
I have a 26" Mens’ NEXT PowerX Dual-Suspension Mountain Bike that I purchased online at Wal-Mart. I took for a ride the other week and was fine and got it out the other day and for some reason it seems like it wants to shift gears or at least I think that is what it is doing but not sure. I just hear a clicking sound down around the chain and not sure what it is? Does anyone have any suggestions?
Yes. What you’re hearing is exactly that, the derailleur is trying to shift gears. Your bike is going through a break-in process, and the new cables are stretching. Happens to all new bikes. What the bike really needs is a tune up, but you can try playing with the barrel adjusters (should be on your shifters) until the chattering stops.
Take it back and go to a reputable bike shop and buy a bike. Wal Mart bikes are basically toys and not suitable for real cycling.
